Our FLG* technology opens up new avenues. *FLG = Few Layers Graphene. Graphene is the magic word of our century and means an atomic layer.

What is FLG?
Graphene is the magic word of our century. The atomic layer (graphene) is indeed a fascinating material. Compared to other manufacturers we do not claim to be able to produce graphene. But we can delaminate the graphite so that it no longer consists of so many layers. This is what we call FLG technology.

Why FLG technology?
Graphite is an anisotropic material. For example, there is no conductivity in the conductivity. See cover picture above.

To improve the conductivity, we have to peel off the layers and make the stack of graphene lower. The process is called delamination. A graphite structure can be compared to a closed book.
From this book we tear out stacks of pages. A single page would be a graphene, but we are satisfied with several pages and thus have our Few Layer Graphene (FLG). This technology is kept top-secret.

The hexagonal FLGs cluster together in the surface to form perfect arrangements. Abstractly, we imagine this as in the following picture.

What does HCC make from it?
We make highly conductive dispersions from it. We have succeeded in stabilising the FLG particles in such a way that no agglomerates form and the viscosity remains acceptable. These dispersions, together with binders, can be used for a wide variety of applications, for a wide variety of applications.
Abstractly, we imagine this as in the following picture.

Applications:
Heating coatings.
Extremely low voltage and extremely low consumption enable economical, electric panel heating.

Glass fiber fabric impregnated with our FLG dispersion. Heating mats can thus be can be produced for a wide range of applications.

On the 10th anniversary of H.C. Carbon GmbH

Dear friends,

When I founded the company H.C. Carbon GmbH on 28.08.2008, there were many things I did’t know yet. Let’s review what has happened so far.

I met investors who were unfamiliar with business ethics and shareholders with massive character deficits. – At the beginning, I met investors who were unfamiliar with business ethics and shareholders with massive character deficits. But this is the experience of many scientists and company founders. We are too much inspired by the idea and the joy of the new. However it’s almost always like this, that enthusiasm is followed by disillusionment.

But true to my principle: “Only a letter is given up” and with an unshakable belief in success, every crisis could be overcome. So it was that our first headquarters in Nuremberg was the birthplace of HCC. The company developed and as if out of the blue, an accident occurred on 02.07.2010.

Production was completely devastated. Long-term remediation work led to delivery problems and new investments. Thanks to our loyal customers and the commitment of our employees, this crisis was overcome. It quickly became clear that this location was too small and, measured against our products, also unsuitable. Graphite is black and not popular everywhere.

In January 2012, we moved to Rednitzhembach. Now we had the opportunity to produce at an industrial site with good connections.

Over the past few years, we have developed and successfully launched many new products.

Here are to be mentioned:

MECHANO-LUBE® series for the forging industry. MECHANO-COND® 1D4 for highest electrical conductivity.

We were able to close another gap in the area of conductivity. Together with a manufacturer, we have developed a new grade of carbon black and can thus inspire customers who produce conductive or antistatic plastic parts in particular.

In 2013, we became unfaithful to the color black. Due to increasing demand, a product was required that behaves like graphite but is white. Our solution is hexagonal boron nitride!

In 2015, we successfully established ourselves in China.

China is not only an important sales market for us, but also a major supplier of raw materials. Our grinding plant has already been reaching its capacity limits for some time, so we are accelerating the expansion.

We are now in the process of conquering the Indian market. We were able to successfully establish, that our products are well received by customers and are in demand

Dear friends, the love for the products, the deep respect for our customers and our employees make us successful. Many products are customized and do not appear in our portfolio. We operate in a high-tech market where secrecy and discretion are paramount.

Only in this way and with the highest quality, we were able to hold our own for 10 years against sometimes aggressive market competitors.

And we continue to grow.

We still have a lot of plans! Since May of this year, we have reorganized ourselves. We have strengthened our team and are moving forward with great confidence.

How quickly these 10 years have passed!

MECHANO-LUBE™ High Tech Lubricants – The Scientific Background of Success

Facts

Only natural graphite has a perfect flake structure formed over millions of years.
Due to its structure, natural graphite is smooth and soft, like a good pencil.
Purified natural graphite is free of minerals such as quartz. Some of our competitors use artificial graphite made from electrodes scrap.
Artificial graphite is mostly graphitized petroleum coke, produced in about 2 weeks.
Some competitors who use natural graphite usually have no idea where the graphite comes from, which country, which mine. Often they buy from traders.

Facts

HCC knows the complete path of the graphite (important for stable quality) and applies a special preparation process.
HCC does not grind the graphite in ball mills or agitator ball mills to avoid impurities such as ball abrasion. Above all, to protect the structure of the graphite.
Purified natural graphite is free of minerals such as quartz. Some of our competitors use artificial graphite made from electrodes scrap.
From responsibility towards the environment and employees, we do not use ammonia.
HCC has found a unique combination between the chemical additives and the manufacturing process.

Natural graphite – flake type

The SEM image of a natural graphite flake (side view) shows thousands of layers perfectly arranged by nature. These layers
can be shifted against each other.
This gives the graphite its lubricating properties.

HCC uses only natural graphite from defined sources and monitors particle size and shape throughout the preparation process.

These SEM images show the particle structure of natural and artificial graphite,* ground in the same way. Clearly visible is the rough and uneven structure of the artificial graphite. The beautiful platelet structure of the natural graphite covers the surface of the steel and gives a perfect lubrication.

Chemicals

Ammonia solution NH₄OH.
This chemical should not be used in any lubricant.
HCC has banned this chemical.

Decomposition products during the forging process (smoke) should not be harmful to health.

Now you have the knowledge to ask your lubricant supplier critical questions. Or better yet, switch to HCC now.

Ask your supplier the following questions:

Do you use natural or artificial graphite?
How do you grind the graphite? (Possible answer: “That’s secret.”)
In the case of natural graphite – Do you know the exact origin of the graphite (not the dealer)?
Are you sure that the quality is constant?
Is there a health risk from decomposition products?
Why are you still using ammonia? (This question only for antiquated companies.)
